Heavenly Horse (2023)
Mirjam is a qualified psychologist from Haastrecht in the Netherlands. Her father left her the house where she grew up, including his own former practice room. For her, however, something was always missing in psychotherapy. It didn’t seem enough to her to treat people with mental health problems through talking alone. Her approach to healing is to look at clients holistically – with all their feelings, mental and physical ailments, external influences and circumstances as well as the body’s own energies. She found the missing components in her therapeutic approaches in shamanism. With the help of shamanic rituals, coaching, massages, energetic healing and Reiki, she aims to offer her clients holistic support on their individual paths to recovery. Often it is simply a matter of being seen and perceived, or relaxing or finding oneself, because this has an effect on body and soul – everything is connected.
So how can empirically based approaches from an academic discipline such as psychology be combined with the less tangible, spiritual shamanism and what challenges does this work between the boundaries of rationality and spirituality entail?
